Annapolis Chain Grocery/Supermarket Locations, 1928-1986

Last updated on 3 June 2025.

This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Annapolis between 1949 and 1986, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections.

Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

At Parole Plaza, in the Food Fair/Pantry Pride location, was a Magruder’s grocery store that opened around 1984.

The Giant at Forest Plaza was there until 1987 I believe, when it moved to the next shopping center at Festival at Riva. The original, earlier Giant became a Kiddie City toy store.

Finally, another major grocery chain in the area when I was growing up was Graul’s – I’m too lazy to look up the address, but they had two locations in the Annapolis area, the other being in Cape St. Claire.
