This is a list of all chain grocery locations my research has uncovered in Hampton and Newport News between 1925 and 2005, compiled from city directories, telephone books, and other sources. There may be some omissions due to incomplete or missing data, etc. and I welcome suggestions and corrections. Please read about my methodology for more information about what I do and do not include.

    Hey,
I can help fill in the pieces of what happened at least in Hampton post 2005.

Farm Fresh folded in 2019 and most stores became Kroger or Harris Teeter. For example, the old super fresh/ farm fresh on fox hill road became a Harris Teeter. The old super fresh/farmer Jack at riverdale stayed abandoned for 20 years til it was finally torn down for a big Kroger.

Lidl came to Hampton in 2017.
