H.C. Bohack

Last updated on 30 April 2025.

One-time New York City chain H.C. Bohack was one of two chains whose majority stockholder at least through the 1950s was National Food Products (the other was Colonial Stores in the southeastern US). Bohack began having problems in the 1970s. After an unsuccessful merger attempt with Shopwell in 1974, the stores finally went under in 1977, when 55 of the 59 units were closed, with the remainder staying open as closeout locations.

A Manhattan Bohack store (2 Av. at 86 St.) was featured in the 1968 film “The Odd Couple.”
